In this video, Myopia Management Coordinator Celeste Dalesio discusses how parents can help manage their child’s myopia at home.
1. Define a study area for your child with an open window where sunlight can come in and not facing a wall.
2. Commit to spending at least 45 minutes outdoors to get natural sunlight and strengthen distance vision.
3. Follow the 20/20/20 rule. Every 20 minutes look 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
4. Posture and Lighting – make sure your child has ample lighting in the room they work or study in to reduce the stress and strain on the visual system. Poor posture leads to leaning in to the material they are reading so make sure they sit up and keep and arms length of distance between their eyes and their material.
5. Limit screen time.
