I became fascinated with vision as a young child. My sister needed eyeglasses at a very young age. Her first pair of glasses made such a wonderful impact on her life, I knew that I wanted to help others the way my sister was helped with our most precious gift...our eye health and vision. I concentrated on spending many years in advanced training, including several externships in specialized areas of medical and visual eye health. Even now as an optometrist, I spend over the required amount of time learning new advancements in our profession. It is a passion of mine. Myopia (nearsightedness) management is mandatory. This disease, is too often corrected with a 'bandage' of simply increasing one's diopter power to thicker and thicker eyeglasses. Allowing a patient with diabetes to steadily have increased sugar levels and simply adjusting drugs and insulin is not current or accepted medical treatment; nor should increasing one's diopter prescription to thicker glasses leading to blinding disorders such as cataracts glaucoma and retina detachment be accepted. I'm proud to be a specialist in myopia management with like colleagues who share the same passion to fight the battle of myopia (nearsightedness) diseases. It's more than blurred vision, and we as doctors can stop blindness from occurring.
